30-minute self-care mind + body routine to start your day

As busy working parents, it's not always easy to get in the much-needed self-care time we all need to survive. Without the proper self-care, we can get burnt out easily, lose patience quickly, and find it harder to see the positivity in our day. By practicing a quick, 30-minute self-care routine daily, we can reset our body + mind and bring the best versions of ourselves to our families and relationships.

Start Your Day with a Calming + Balancing Activity for the Mind and Body

My morning routine consists of waking up, and engaging in a 15-30 minute mind balancing yoga session, followed by a 5-minute meditation. I then write in a gratitude journal and my Passion Planner, outlining my goals and what I’m grateful for on that particular morning.

After this 30 minute mindful wake up, I go about my regular morning routine. As someone who has experienced anxiety and bouts of depression, and has been bogged down by stress in the past, this has helped me focus on the positive aspects of my day and my life. I’d highly recommend starting your day with something that makes your mind and body feel good. Bonus if it also is one of your favorite activities!

The following are activities you can start today, to set your day up for success and feel balanced in body and mind!

  1. Yoga and Meditation: With the ability to clear your mind and bring focus to your mind/body connection, yoga and meditation has the ability to transform your morning routine. Try practicing every day for 20 minutes each session. You will start to notice a difference in your daily outlook, in how your muscles feel and in your posture.
  2. Cardio Routine: A daily set of cardio exercises is great for the heart and mind. It doesn’t have to be fancy or even in a gym – there is a ton of free content on You Tube that you can pop on while you’re getting ready in the morning. I always feel like a much better version of myself when I’m able to get in a daily sweat session, even a short one.
  3. Morning Walk/Run: If you have extra time (or can wake up a bit earlier) and get in a nice power walk or run, it’s a great way to start your day out on a positive note. Even if your walk consists of a daily stroll with your dog, it’s better than nothing! I always remind myself that even a small amount of activity is great for my mind and body.
  4. Do Something You Truly Enjoy: Before launching into the less-than-fun-activities we all need to do daily, it’s recommended to engage in an activity you actually enjoy. Even if this means spending 5-10 minutes reading a book for fun, writing in your journal, or just enjoying a cup of coffee before the hectic day starts – whatever your activity of choice – spending a little time doing this daily will make the rest of your day easier to deal with even if it’s challenging.

Show up for yourself, and everything else will fall into place.
